Lesotho’s Visually Impaired League Puts Assistive Technology in the Public Eye

In June 2025, the Lesotho National League of the Visually Impaired Persons (LNLVIP) marked World Assistive Technology Day with a public pop-up event in Maseru, a social media campaign and a series of video testimonials. A high-level roundtable in July brought together government ministries, the United Nations, Vodacom Foundation and disability organisations to discuss how Lesotho can improve support for assistive technology users. Together, the activities reached over 40,000 people on Facebook and opened new conversations between policymakers and the people AT is meant to serve.

Livingstone Marks World AT Day With Documentary, Panel Discussion and a Life-Changing Pledge

On 4 June 2025, Vilole Images Productions (VIP-WoGDRoZ) launched World Assistive Technology Day in Livingstone, Zambia, with a documentary screening and a public discussion forum. Forty-seven people attended the event, which was graced by the Mayor of Livingstone, Ms Constance Nalishebo Muleabai. The day produced an unexpected and powerful outcome. The story of a 21-year-old girl living without a prosthetic leg moved the Mayor and guests to pledge K12,000 on the spot to help fund her artificial limb.

Botswana Federation of the Disabled Reaches Community Through Pop-Up and Wellness Day

On 4 June 2025, the Botswana Federation of the Disabled (BOFOD) held an Assistive Technology Pop-Up event in Gaborone to mark World Assistive Technology Day. The event brought AT suppliers, manufacturers, healthcare professionals and community members together for hands-on demonstrations and open discussion. A follow-up Wellness Day on 26 June extended the conversation to duty bearers and policymakers. Together, the two events reached around 100 people and helped build a wider community of support for assistive technology users in Botswana.
